What is a NCS?
There are many terms used to describe a newborn care specialist. I’m sure you’ve heard of some of them! “Baby nurse, maternity nurse, postpartum doula, night nanny.” All of these terms refer to people who care for newborns after they are born, but what makes them different?
Postpartum Doulas take care of moms and babies after birth. They typically focus more on mother care, whereas NCS’s focus mostly on baby care.
Night nannies are exactly what it sounds like! A nanny that works at night! Night nannies have not taken NCS or Doula trainings.
As for baby and maternity “nurses”, legally, you can’t use the word nurse in your title without holding a nursing degree, So, in 2013, the International Nanny Association coined the term “Newborn Care Specialist” to give those who care for newborns a title of their own.
